Proteome analysis in resistant and susceptible rose genotypes during powdery mildew (Podosphaera pannosa) infection process

Powdery mildew (Podosphaera pannosa) is a yield limiting fungal disease affecting rose production in polyhouses and open fields. This disrupts rose market and industry. Characterization of transcriptional and translational changes during rose-powdery mildew interaction gives insight about disease resistance and susceptibility factors in rose. The protein profile of powdery mildew resistant rose genotype IIHRR13-4 was compared with susceptible commercial cultivar Konfetti. 2D gel electrophoresis revealed differential expression of proteins in IIHRR13-4 and Konfetti at 0 and 36 hours after inoculation (hai) with conidia of P. pannosa. The number and volume of differentially expressed and unique protein spots were categorized and compared at 0 and 36 hai in both the lines and expressed as scatter plots. Selected protein spots from IIHRR13-4 and Konfetti were identified by MALDITOF- MS. The protein spots with ID numbers 60, 72, 73, 260, 33, 61, 47 from IIHRR13-4 were respectively identified as ADP, ATP carrier protein-2, phosphor-2-dehydro-3-deoxyheptonate aldolase-1, RNA polymerase sigma factor from Arabidopsis thaliana, active cytochrome P450, calcineurin B like protein-4, mitogen activated protein kinases homolog NTF-6 from Nicotiana tabacum, and probable disease resistance protein At1g61300 from A. thaliana. These proteins are known to play a role in defence mechanism of other plant species.
